Ingredients

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/3 cup brown sugar
  • 2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup cold unsalted butter, cubed
  • 1 large egg
  • 1/4 cup maple syrup
  • 1/4 cup heavy cream
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 cup finely chopped apple
  • 1/2 cup powdered sugar (for glaze)
  • 1-2 tablespoons maple syrup (for glaze)

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 400°F (200°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. In a large bowl, whisk together flour, brown sugar, baking powder, cinnamon, and salt.
  3. Cut in the cold butter using a pastry cutter or fork until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
  4. In a separate bowl, whisk together egg, maple syrup, cream, and vanilla extract.
  5. Add wet ingredients to dry and mix until just combined. Fold in chopped apples.
  6. Turn the dough onto a floured surface and shape into a circle about 1-inch thick.
  7. Cut into 8 wedges and place on prepared baking sheet.
  8. Bake for 18–22 minutes or until golden brown. Let cool slightly.
  9. For the glaze, mix powdered sugar with maple syrup until smooth, then drizzle over scones.
