Ingredients

  • 1½ pounds ground chuck (80/20 blend)
  • Salt and freshly ground black pepper, to taste
  • 4 burger buns
  • Optional toppings: cheese slices, lettuce, tomato, onion, pickles, condiments

Instructions

  1. Start with chilled ground beef and gently form into 4 patties, about ¾-inch thick. Avoid overworking the meat.
  2. Make a small indentation in the center of each patty with your thumb to prevent puffing during grilling.
  3. Preheat your grill to high heat. Clean and oil the grates.
  4. Season patties generously with salt and pepper right before grilling.
  5. Grill patties for 3–4 minutes per side for medium-rare to medium, flipping once. Add cheese during the last minute, if using.
  6. Let burgers rest for 2–3 minutes off the grill.
  7. Toast buns on the grill for 30 seconds, then assemble with desired toppings and serve immediately.
